1교시

Communication and Presentation – Helen Han    -

During the four-week course, students will have the opportunity to practice speaking English by engaging in diverse speaking activities. This course is designed develop students’ oral proficiency in English. In other words, the most important goal of this course is to help students speak a lot in English and gain confidence! Students will talk a lot with their peers and speak in English all day. Students will learn to develop their fluency, accuracy and pronunciation, and build their confidence to communicate in English. The course consists of a variety of activities such as telling personal stories, giving informative speeches, speaking about current issues, persuading audience and mini presentations. Students will be expected to actively participate throughout the course.


Communication and Presentation – Min Ji Chae -

 

In this four-week course, students will get many opportunities to practice speaking English through various speaking activities. The main goal of the course is to help students speak more in English and feel more confident. The course emphasizes key aspects of delivery, including body language, eye contact, vocal control, and organizing skills, while offering hands-on practice to enhance confidence and clarity in public speaking.

This course is designed to get students talking! Students will learn to develop their fluency, accuracy and pronounciation and build their confidence to communicate in English. The course consists of a variety of activities which reflect real-life situations including making small-talk, telling anecdotes, speaking about current issues,  and presentation skills. Students will be expected to fully expected to fully participate throughout the course.

In this four-week course, students will receive practical, skills-based training designed to meet the presentation needs of university students. We will cover two basic presentation styles and various presentation techniques.

Cinema English - Helen Han   -


During the two-week course, students will have the opportunity to practice speaking English by engaging in in-depth discussions about movies with different themes and styles.  Two lesson periods will be spent on each movie.  While certain scenes will be analyzed in more detail during class time, the students are required to watch the whole movie in their own time every two days to discuss the general themes and ideas.  On the last day, students will do a mini presentation introducing a movie of their choice and preference.

Exploring Korea - Min Ji Chae   -

In this two-week course, students will have the opportunity to practice English by introducing Korean culture, food, entertainment, and travel. It is designed for learners who want to confidently share Korea with people from other countries—whether while studying abroad, participating in exchange programs, or meeting international visitors. Through short presentations and discussions, students will learn how to explain Korean customs, recommend food and places, and answer common questions about daily life in Korea.

Pillars of Pop Music - David J. Hamilton  Syllabus

 

These days everyone is listening to K-Pop because it is catchy, exciting, and visually stimulating. However, what influenced the pop music you know and love? In this class we will look back into the history of pop music in the last 70 years to find out who are the ‘Pillar of Pop Music’?! We will look at when the commercial music started, and where the important elements of modern pop music came from. To do this we will discuss our ideas of pop music, listen to famous songs, watch amazing performances, and experience music in a fun and interactive way. Have an open-mind and be prepared to experience music through English. Let’s rock!

Debate Master - Brian Ridgeway  Syllabus

 

In this two-week course in critical thinking and debate skills focuses on building arguments, presenting arguments, and evaluating arguments. The class will conclude with a competitive debate on a controversial issue in Korean society.

Current Issues - Helen Han  -


Why do we worry about what others think of us? What motivates us to get out of bed in the morning? Why did failure never stop Steve Jobs? These and many other questions about the human experience will be answered in this course. Welcome to the world of psychology—the science that studies the human mind and behavior. For the next two weeks students will do various activities including experimenting, surveying, debating, and discussing. Through these activities students will learn about various psychological concepts including personality, memory, process, conformity, motivation, intelligence, creativity, impressions, competition, cooperation, and self-perception. After completing this course, students will be able to understand, debate, and discuss various psychological concepts in English. They will also have better insight into how they can apply these psychological concepts to their own life.

English for Real-Life situations – Min Ji Chae  -

In this course, students will use short drama/movie clips to explore and practice English in eight different real-life situations (e.g. meeting someone new, making invitations, giving advice..etc). Each class begins with watching a video to set the context, followed by group discussions where students think about what they could say in each scenario. After discussing ideas and useful expressions, students will move on to practice through role-plays and speaking activities. The course aims to improve students’ confidence, fluency, and ability to respond appropriately in everyday conversations.

Travel and Culture – David J. Hamilton  Syllabus

 

Everyone loves to travel and experience new things. What is the most interesting country you have visited? What is the weirdest food you have eaten? What shocked you the most about another culture? In this class we are going to share our experiences of travel and culture. There will be lots of fun activities, so be prepared to get off your chair and talk to all of your classmates! We will do discussions, roleplays, and team activities related to different aspects of travel and culture. Finally, you will work in a team to plan a trip somewhere in the world and present your ideas to the rest of the class. Book your ticket!

Job English - Brian Ridgeway  Syllabus

 

This two-week course is focused on helping students land their first entry-level job. Students will learn about resumes, cover letters, personal statements, and job interview techniques.
