The Department of Communication and Media aims to produce cross-media communicators and flexible media experts well versed in the communicative function and public value of traditional media and the vastly expanding fields of modern communication.

Beginning as the Department of Journalism in 1960, Ewha’s Department of Communication and Media made a bold move in becoming the first Korean university to reform their media major into an entire Department of Media Studies in order to raise the university’s competitive edge through globalization and preparing the school for the informational age. Later in 2015, in response to the need for a more integrated education across a variety of media fields in the quickly changing media industry, the Department of Media Studies was changed to the Department of Communication and Media.

Backed by nearly 60 years of history, graduates of Ewha Womans University’s Department of Communication and Media have found positions throughout all parts of the media and communication industries and are fulfilling roles as leaders in society. Communications is a field with an extremely high potential demand for talented women, and there is a continuous increase in the number of female experts in the current digital media age. We have high hopes that Ewha Womans University’s Department of Communication and Media will continue to play a large part in the past, present, and future of all communications industries.
