Welcome to the Department of Communications

and Media at Ewha Womans University

The Department of Communications and Media at Ewha Womans University began in 1960 as the School of Journalism, later it was reformed and renamed as the department of Broadcasting Journalism, then Media Studies, and in 2015 it became what it is today.

For almost 60 years, the Department of Communications and Media has continued to change along with society and the advances in technology and has created a beautiful history and legacy along with the countless talented women that school has educated through many years.

The department is consisted of an undergraduate and a graduate program, which focuses on producing individuals prepared for academic research in a wide variety of communications fields and actively taking part in mass communication production in the real world. Our Masters and Doctorate programs produce capable researchers, while our Communications and Media Research Lab’s diverse projects and the Graduate School of Policy Sciences’ Media and Public Relations program link the academic and real-life experiences in the media fields. Undergraduate students majoring in Communications and Media get a comprehensive education in media as well as gaining practical knowledge and experience in producing their own media content to prepare them to become the next generation’s communications experts. Outstanding students are selected and given guidance in finding employment in the field of media, and our MCC (Media Career Center) takes pride in knowing that each year we produce and place tens of students as journalists and producers within both local and international media companies.

The communications and media program recently combined the previous Media Information, PR Advertisement, Broadcasting and Film majors into one track-based program to prepare talented individuals more effectively to lead the advances in communications technology and lastly the media convergence phenomena. Our goal is to use our six-track system to cultivate media experts prepared for the global era and leaders with a strong base knowledge in a variety of fields in the humanities and social sciences to effectively communicate with anyone they meet.

The Ewha Womans University Department of Communications and Media will continue to grow; to improve, to lead in academic research and advancements in the society; and to cultivate the best talented individuals for the communications field as we have throughout our history.
