The WC connects Ewha faculty and staff with full-time EPO professors who offer freelance work as proofreaders/editors. Because the service is offered independently by participating professors, it is not a direct service of the WC.

영어 글쓰기 센터는 교원분들과 교양영어실 소속 교원분들을 연결하는 역할을 합니다. 교정/수정 서비스는 교양영어실 소속 교원분들이 프리랜서로서 제공하는 것으로 영어 글쓰기 센터에서 직접적으로 제공하는 것은 아닙니다.

Although many people use the terms interchangeably, proofreading and editing are different. When a document is proofread, it is typically adjusted for surface-level errors such as grammar, punctuation, and spelling. When a document is edited, it is checked more extensively. For example, in addition to grammar and punctuation, other features such as overall organization, logical flow, clarity of ideas, style (wordiness, word choice, register), and format (APA, MLA, CMS) will be considered.

교정(proofreading)과 수정(editing)은 혼용되어 쓰이는 용어이기도 하지만, 엄연히 다른 의미를 지닙니다. 교정은 문법, 구두점, 철자 등의 표면적인 문제들을 조정하는 것을 말합니다. 그에 반해, 수정은 더 광범위한 부분에서의 교정으로, 문법이나 구두점뿐만 아니라, 전체적인 구조, 논리의 흐름, 생각의 명료함, 스타일 (어휘 구사력, 어휘 적절성, 언어의 사용역), 참조형식 (APA, MLA, CMS) 등에 관련된 문제들이 모두 고려 대상이 됩니다.

It depends on the proofreader/editor. Some participants only provide one type of service, so please check with them directly before starting any work.

교원에 따라 제공하는 서비스가 다를 수 있습니다. 일부의 교원은 교정과 수정 중 한가지의 서비스만 제공할 수도 있기 때문에, 일을 맡기시기 전에 우선 직접 확인을 해보시는 것을 권장합니다.

The service is available to all Ewha faculty and staff. Students are not eligible including all undergraduate and graduate students who may be working as teaching assistants.

이 서비스는 모든 이화의 교원들을 대상으로 제공됩니다. 학습조교로 일하고 있는 학부/대학원생들은 제공 대상이 아닙니다.

Proofreaders and editors accept a wide range of documents. Academic papers such as journal articles, abstracts, and presentation notes to personal documents such as cover letters, and resumes are accepted.

논문이나 초록, 발제문들과 같은 학술적인 내용의 문서도 가능하고, cover letter나 이력서 같은 개인 문서들도 가능합니다.

The fee will vary according to each participating proofreader/editor. When assessing the fee, the proofreader/editor will consider variables such as error density, length of the document, and time needed to complete the work. Therefore, editing fees tend to be higher. 비용은 교정/수정할 내용의 양, 문서의 길이, 완성하기까지 걸린 시간 등의 요소들에 따라 차이가 있고, 대체로 수정(editing)의 경우에 더 많은 비용이 발생합니다. 교정/수정 서비스를 담당하실 교원분께 직접 문의하시면 더 정확한 비용을 확인하실 수 있습니다.

The WC can connect you with participating proofreaders/editors when the WC is in session. We are open for 12 weeks during the Fall and Spring semesters, and for 3 weeks during the Summer and Winter sessions. However, proofreaders and/editors have varying schedules, so please check their availability once you receive their contact information.

영어 글쓰기 센터는 가을과 봄학기에 12주동안 운영되고, 여름과 겨울 학기에는 3주간 운영됩니다. 기본적으로 이 기간에는 서비스를 제공합니다. 그러나 교원에 따라 그렇지 못한 경우가 있을 수도 있으므로, 담당 교원의 연락처를 받으시면 꼭 확인해 보시기 바랍니다.

Since all work is accepted independently, the duration of work will vary according to each proofreader/editor.

Receipts can be issued by the proofreader/editor that you work with. Because the service is not directly offered by the WC, receipts cannot be issued by our office.

영수증은 담당 교원분께 발급받으실 수 있습니다. 이 서비스는 영어 글쓰기 센터가 직접적으로 제공하는 것이 아니므로 영어 글쓰기 센터에서는 영수증을 발급받으실 수 없습니다.

Please contact the WC and provide us with your e-mail and the department/office where we can reach you as a member of Ewha faculty or staff. The WC will then send you the contact information of participating proofreaders/editors.
