Korean Women's Institute (KWI) was established. KWI was created by abolishing and merging two research institutes - The Research Institute for Korean Women's History (formed in 1972) and The Women's Resource Development Institute (formed in 1970).
As the first Director of KWI, Professor, KIM Yung-Chung (Dept. of History) was appointed. (She was reappointed as the 2nd Director of KWI.)
