Due
to the paradigm shifts to an ICT-oriented industrial structure, the influence
of mathematics in modern society is rapidly expanding as we have now arrived in
an era where “knowledge industry that utilizes computing” has enhanced industry
competitiveness and created new industries. Keeping up with the changing social
and industrial environment, Ewha Institute of Mathematical Sciences (EIMS) was
established in 1998, seeking to pioneer various fields of application through
“the mobilization of mathematical science research” and the integration of
these researches with new technologies. EIMS aims to conduct research that will
infiltrate into the 21st-century society of knowledge-based
information by improving the qualities of research, cultivating promising human
resources, mobilizing graduate programs, proliferating mathematical applications,
interdisciplinary interactions between various academic disciplines,
cooperation with high-tech industries etc. EIMS, as a university-affiliated research
institute, will fulfill its role of expanding the influence and application of
mathematics in society by aspiring to contribute to the development of
industries.
Through "the mobilization of the
mathematical science researches that form the foundation for science and
high-tech industries" supported by the ‘Core Research Institute Program’
of the Ministry of Education since 2008, EIMS has enhanced its competitive edge
by cultivating research human resources and active academic research through
specializing in research that are related to fields of application, in
particular, image processing and statistical techniques for cryptography and
finance. Due to current diverse applications of mathematics, EIMS further
intends to actively orient and mobilize its research based on the increasing potential of pure
mathematics, which not only dissolve the boundary between various fields for
them to cooperate with each other, but also possess the capacity to transform future society.
EIMS
aims to enhance its competitive edge through creating an academic environment
based on specialized research that will strengthen its status both domestically
and internationally. As EIMS focuses on achieving its objective by contributing
to the development of fields based on mathematics, we ask for your continuous
