[Explanation]

The works of Japan’s most celebrated contemporary writers, Kobo Abe (1924-1993) are examined with a particular interest in the heteromorphic beings. With the vast range of social problems in Japan’s modern history, this book explores how and why these monsters, who are clearly not human nor animal, are created and consumed. By analyzing these monsters, the book also reveals the principle of social isolation and the structure of power that allows it to function with increased intensity.
