[Lecture] 'Race and Gender' Special Lecture Series 13 (6/11, Thur)

['Race and Gender' Special Lecture Series 13]

Borderland Dreams: The Transnational Lives of Korean Chinese Workers

This lecture examines how "departure" and "staying" operate simultaneously through the movements and settlements of Korean Chinese migrants. Within transnational mobilities that cross East Asia and extend beyond it, migrants' lives are organized through the flows of bodies, money, and time, and are shaped at the intersection of state structures, labor markets, and historical conditions. Through this lens, the lecture illuminates how different "dreams" — the Korean Dream and the China Dream — overlap and at times collide, shaping the directions and conditions of migrants' lives.
