Basic Research Laboratory for the Genomic Analysis of Adaptive Evolution, a collaborative research program funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea, includes five faculty members (lead PI: Yuseob Kim) belonging to the Department of Life Science and the Division of EcoScience at Ewha. This project combines principal investigator’s ability to develop population genetics theory and co-investigators’ expertises in the biochemical, ecological, and genetic analyses of actual taxa to elucidate adaptive evolution in prokaryotes, insects and molluscs using genomic sequence variation. We will analyze the coevolution of multiple prokaryotic species that perform complementary metabolism, reconstruct the history of adaptive evolution and demographic dynamics in cicadas and intertidal snails in response to climate changes, and elucidate genetic mechanism underlying molluscs’ adaptive evolution in response to salinity changes during habitat shifts from marine to freshwater.
