Life Science

In the 21st century, knowledge-based society, Bio-pharmaceutical industry is the key areas of next-generation growth engine industries that can create the most value. Life science-related field of 'post-genomic era that celebrated with a complete human genome map in 2003 is now changing to new paradigm in the form of 'convergence of life sciences' which is developed by convergence between a variety of advanced science & technology (including Information and Communication technology (IT), Nano-material technology (NT)) and Biotechnology (BT). In addition, since newly developed high-tech convergence technologies and the field of medicine and pharmacy are combining and applied immediately to trends in the diagnosis and treatment of drug development and disease, it is the most important key areas that education and research in graduate school which is to incorporate state-of-the-art life sciences and pharmacy in the next generation of national industrial development.

Ewha Womans University Graduate School of Biological Sciences pursues advanced education and research in the life sciences and convergence which is based on interdisciplinary cooperation programs of various majors, in accordance with the contemporary requirements of life science convergence. Through these activities, train women professionals who are adequate for new paradigm for life sciences with the complex research and development capabilities, and they will lead the future of life science research.

Eco Science

Eco Science is a comprehensive & integrated study about time takes place in a variety of biological units and the spatial pattern & the process. Therefore, it is required to be equipped with analytic methodology in traditional natural sciences and holistic approach in humanities and social sciences.

Specifically, it is a type of study deal with the interdisciplinary convergence research between the various field of studies such as natural sciences and engineering with a focus on ecology, health and medicine, ethics, history, law, policy studies, etc. in order to present a reasonable solution with comprehensive understanding of the 'environmental issues' that threatens the existence of mankind in 21st century, for instance, climate change, including global warming, loss of biodiversity, degradation of natural ecosystems and human environments.

Bio Convergence Science

Graduate School of Bio Convergence Science pursues the advanced education and research based on the Convergence of academic interdisciplinary with chemistry, life sciences, and pharmacy. Convergence between chemistry, life sciences and the pharmaceutical sector is the essential education system in order to understand the causes that related with disease, aging, etc. at level of Molecular Cell Biology.

Bioinformatics (Collaborative program)

Bio-informatics / Bioinformatics, / Bioinformatics sector is one of most representative convergence studies that combined state-of-the-art computer technology and statistical techniques to analyze the capacity of the bio-data such as genetic map, and its importance has been growing rapidly since the completion of the human genome map in 2003. In addition, it was developed firmly as the core research methodology of life science; it had come off from a simple processing of large volumes of data and has been focused for development of systems biology in order to identify the principles of biological phenomena in the overall system level for last 10 years. Responding to this trend, bioinformatics collaborative program provides training courses that combined with life sciences, computer science, statistics, mathematics, etc. with main topics such as the analysis of personal genome map that recently emerged as a topic of future medical biotechnology, pharmacogenomics for the implementation of personalized health care based on the genome information, next-generation life science and medicine through the analysis of the bio-big data.
