This major was founded in 1951 for the purpose of provide competent women scientific manpower that can contribute to scientific and technological culture through biological research, and has achieved a lot of change and development to this day in accordance with the demand of the times. Through the time of biology department in college of education & college of liberal arts and sciences, in 1982, opened new period of biology department in college of natural science that situated in the General Science Center which would be the home of the latest basic science research. In order to perform a leading role in the future industrial society the life sciences, renamed title of department as biological sciences, and is currently organized as biological sciences major in department of molecular life sciences, college of natural sciences, due to reformation of undergraduate study.

As future-oriented study that challenges secrets and mysteries of life, ensure the professional female workforce to lead the high-tech life sciences and engineering based on the correct point of view of life.

1. Life science offers comprehensive subjects across the life sciences and conducts systematic and comprehensive basic

    education for the phenomenon of life, in order to train the professional research staffs that are citizens have the correct point 

    of view of life as well as can contribute to social development through the life sciences industry to lead the future society.

2. Provide training to be engaged as professionals by entering a variety of applications based on Life Sciences.

3. Provide support training for manpower to major in other fields or in the natural world or be engaged in middle and high school

    science teachers.

4. On the basis of correct understanding of life processes and scientific thinking, provide education to talents

   that can contribute to solve various social problems associated with life sciences.

Modern life sciences has been diversified, and its influence is very extensive due to its deep interrelated connection with applied Science, including medicine, pharmacy, breeding genetic engineering and environmental engineering, there is a need to provide an opportunity to acquire knowledge about the overall life sciences. It focuses on organizing training courses to be balanced between an approach from the macroscopic field of study to microscopic areas & another type of approach from classic sector to modern sector, in order to the accomplishment of this purpose. It has opened the course of animal and plant taxonomy, animal and plant physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, embryology, molecular biology, ecology, genetics, immunology, nerve physiology, etc. In addition, increase the training effect through hands-on in natural history museum, herb garden, and greenhouse as well as special lectures & outdoor gathering, etc. Also, with respect to dielectric and bioinformatics, established undergraduate majors associated with Bioinformatics and interdisciplinary program in Bioinformatics graduate course.
