The Student Council is a voluntary group of student leaders dedicated to improving the academic and social environment of Ewha GSIS. Serving as a representative body, the Student Council provides unified voice for Ewha GSIS students, and promotes communication between students and faculty.

EWHA GSIS Student Council Constitution

Name

The name of this organization shall be EWHA Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) Student Council, hereinafter referred to as the Student Council.

Purpose

The purpose of the Student Council shall be to:

  • Serve as an official representative body of EWHA GSIS students,
  • Provide an organized voice of EWHA GSIS students,
  • Improve the academic and social environment of EWHA GSIS, and Promote communication between students and faculty of EWHA GSIS.

Membership

Each major shall contribute at least one member to the Student Council. The EWHA GSIS Student Council shall consist of President, Vice-President, Administrative Manager, Representative of International Trade and Investment, Representative of International Business, Representative of Development Cooperation, Representative of International Relation and associate members. 

  • Eligibility: Any enrolled student of EWHA GSIS shall be qualified to be a member of the Student Council.
  • Serving Term: Members of the Student Council serve a one-year term.
  • Replacement of representatives: If a regular member of the Student Council is unable to complete her term, the remaining members of the Student Council appoint or elect a replacement. The replacement must be approved by a majority vote of the Student Council.

Responsibilities

Regular Members

A. President:

  • Represents members of the Student Council and students of Ewha GSIS, and has one vote in council meeting. 
  • Schedules and presides over meetings and events of the Student Council, and may put to vote among the council members when an ongoing agenda is under the debate during a particular meeting. 
  • Announces the results after the meetings and the voting procedures to the students and the faculty when necessary.

 

B. Vice-President:

  • Acts in cooperation with the President, and may act for the President in case of any accident. 
  • Has one vote in council meeting.
  • Assists other members of the Student Council or takes the place of any missing members during emergency and/or other accepted occasions.

 

C. Administrative Manager:

  • Manages the necessary budgets, keeps the records of meetings.
  • Has one vote in council meeting.
  • As a party of the student council, is responsible of the given roles during each event.

 

D. Representative of International Business:

  • Represents the students of International Business, and has one vote in council meeting.
  • May plan separate events for the faculty, alumnae, and students of the International Business major. 
  • As a party of the student council, is responsible of the given roles during each event.

 

E. Representative of International Trade and Investment:

  • Represents the students of International Trade and Investment, and has one vote in council meeting. 
  • May plan separate events for the faculty, alumnae, and students of the International Trade and Investment major.
  • As a party of the student council, is responsible of the given roles during each event.

 

F. Representative of International Relations:

  • Represents the students of International Relations, and has one vote in council meeting.
  • May plan separate events for the faculty, alumnae, and students of the International Relations major.
  • As a party of the student council, is responsible of the given roles during each event.

 

G. Representative of Development Cooperation:

  • Represents the students of Development & Cooperation, and has one vote in council meeting. 
  • May plan separate events for the faculty, alumnae, and students of the Development & Cooperation major. 
  • As a party of the student council, is responsible of the given roles during each event.

Associate Members

  • Associate Members shall assist regular members when necessary.
  • Associate Members are not obliged to attend regular meetings of the Student Council. Associate Members may attend council meetings, but does not have a vote.
  • Associate Members shall offer objective criticism and advice to prevent the Student Council from being elusive.

Meetings

  • Regular meetings of the Student Council are held at least once a month, excluding vacation terms. All regular members are obliged to attend the meetings. The time and place of each meeting is to be determined by the President.
  • Any members of the Student Council may initiate agenda items by submitting a written proposal to the President before the meeting.
  • Special meetings may be called by the President when necessary.
  • Quorum: A minimum of five voting members must be present for meetings to be official and for votes to be valid.

Election

Nomination:

  • Candidates for the positions of President, Vice President and Administrative Manager of Student Council shall run for the positions in three-person committees.
  • All the candidates shall either volunteer or be recommended.

Voting procedure:

  • Any enrolled student of EWHA GSIS may cast a vote to the three-person committees running for President, Vice President and Administrative Manager. 
  • For the representatives of each major, according to the number of candidates, separate voting may take place. 
  • The voting shall be conducted by online poll, and the participation rate should be no less than fifty percent of all enrolled students of the semester.

Amendments

Any member of the Student Council may submit a proposal for amendment of this constitution in written form to the President. The amendment must be approved by a majority vote of the Student Council.

 

This constitution enters into force starting from September 5, 2005.
