The Ewha Centennial Library is acclaimed to be one of the best facilities in Korea. Built in 1984 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the university founding, the seven-story building has a capacity of 5,000 seats and 1.3 million volumes as well as a digital library and computerized catalogue system that can be accessed on-line; http://lib.ewha.ac.kr. The library maintains five open-stack reading rooms, six general reading rooms for individual research, reference areas, reserve collection, periodicals, rare books collection, microfilms and other special collections. The library has a computer room (1st level), and a convenience store (basement level). The library also offers separate reading rooms for faculty members and graduate students. Students will find an abundance of books in English, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and various other languages.

In addition to Main Library, there are specialized branch libraries in such subjects as Music, Medicine, Law, Engineering, and at the Learning Resources Center. The Ewha Library has ties with campus research organizations and related organizations, and has expanded its ties with other university libraries and research centers, pursuing a wide and diverse application of information.

The Ewha Womans University Library runs a state-of-the-art web-based library system, providing highly professional academic information and material as well as wide-ranging contents through an integrated search system. It is doing its best to fulfill its role as the academic information center for the University which pursues the ideals of globalization, professionalism, and technology in its education to fulfill and anticipate the needs of the Information Age.

Hours

  • ▶ During a semester :
    - Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    - Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • ▶ During the Summer and Winter Vacations
    - Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    - Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    - Closed on Sundays and National Holidays
  • ▶ Reading Room (School Semester/Vacation)
    - 24 hrs (Entrance and exit restricted from 24:00- 5:00

Check-in & out Regulations

- Students have to show or tag the student ID card at the entrance check-point of the library to use the library and at the circulation desk to borrow books. Exchange students need to show the ID card given by the OGA.

- A maximum of five books can be borrowed for the loan period of one week. If you need to use the books longer, you are required to renew them before they become overdue.

- Students may return the books at the 2nd floor at the check-point, during library hours. Outside of the library hours, please use the self-service stand located at the main, west entrance of the library, 1st floor of the Student Union Building, and 3rd floor of the ECC.

- Students will not be able to borrow books unless you clear your account by returning the books and paying the appropriate overdue charge. 100 won will be charged per book and per day.

- If a student loses a book, he or she needs to pay for the book or replace the book same as the lost one depending on the library’s regulations.

- If a book you need has been checked out by another person, you can place a hold on the book online. You need to check the bulletin board in the Library to see whether the book you placed a hold has returned to the library.

- Students can borrow and return the books by the end of the program. No Transcript will not be issued for those students who have not returned the borrowed books and paid the overdue charges before the due date.
