The topic covers the financial crisis currently sweeping Europe and being expected to spread out to the other parts of the world. The causes of the crisis and its impacts on regional economy, and possible solutions and cooperation will be discussed.

Korean speaker discusses the major campaign issues, prospects, and political implications of the 2012 Korean Presidential election and German speaker focuses on the political agenda of the 2013 Bundestag elections and their political implications.

3-1Energy and Energy Diplomacy
This session explores energy and foreign policy aspects of the two countries’ energy supplies: Germany and Korea are both close neighbors to Russia. Germany has long been dependent on Russian gas supplies, whilst Russia is planning to expand its gas export markets by building a pipeline to the Korean Peninsula.

3-2Gender and Innovationin Higher Education
National University Network System and half-priced university tuition policy are emerging as important campaign agendas in the Korean elections. Germany is pursuing cooperation with European universities and reformation of the German universities to enhance the excellence of their education. Gender in higher education has also been an important topic of interest to universities in both countries, and will need to be incorporated into the new innovation schemes.

German speaker discusses the role of social insurance system in the process of reunification as well as current trend and development since the reunification and Korean speaker focuses on potential scenarios after a possible reunification of the Korean Peninsula. Gender mainstreaming in social security needs to be discussed in both countries.
