초록

본 연구는 대만 여성청년들의 한국 워킹홀리데이 경험에 대해 살펴보았다. 전지구화가 가속화되고 이동의 형태가 다양해짐에 따라 일과 휴가를 결합한 워킹홀리데이라는 국제 청년 이동 비자협정이 등장하였다. 그런데 여기서 한국 워킹홀리데이에 참가하는 대만 참가자들은 90% 이상이 여성으로 젠더화되어 있는 현상을 보인다. 이러한 대만여성청년들의 이동 경험은 기존의 경제적 동기로 인해 이동하는 노동이주나 결혼이주와 같은 여성이주로는 설명되지 않는다. 이에 본 연구는 워킹홀리데이라는 새로운 이동 제도가 대만의 청년문제, 미디어의 발달이 동시대 문화 한류의 아시아 확산과 이로 인한 대만 “한류 세대”의 등장과 맞물리며 어떻게 특수한 대만 여성청년의 해외 이동 현장을 만들고 있는지 주목하였다. 이에 한국에 워킹 홀리데이 온 대만 여성들을 심층 면접하고 이들의 생활을 참여관찰을 했다. 이 연구는 워킹홀리데이라는 떠남과 정착이라는 기존 이주로는 잡히지 않는 새로운 젊은 여성들의 이동형태의 등장을 드러내었다는 의의가 있다. 앞으로 나타날 유연하고 새로운 이동형태 안에서 어떤 여성들이 나타날 것인지에 대한 후속 연구가 필요하다.

This study examined the Korean working holiday experience of Taiwanese female youths. As globalization accelerates and the form of mobility is diversified, Working Holiday, an international youth migration visa agreement has been created. Since 2010 Taiwan – Korea Working Holiday Visa Program had started, the Taiwanese women participants have been rapidly growing. Furthermore, it shows highly gender imbalanced state since women participants take over 90% of all Taiwanese participants. This phenomenon, however, can not be explained with prior studies about women's migration such as labor migration or marriage migration for economic purpose. This study focused on how the new mobility system, Working Holiday intertwined with Taiwan's youth problems and Korean Wave which is contemporary cultural phenomenon in Asia with the development of media and created Taiwanese "Korean Wave generation". These factors combined and created a special scene of female youth's mobility. Qualitative method was conducted by interviewing in-depth Taiwanese female youths who participate Korea Working Holiday and other ordinary Taiwanese female youths to observe the context of Taiwan. This study is meaningful in that it reveals the new experiences of young women's mobility. Further studies will be necessary to continue research on what female subjects will be born within such a flexible and new kind of mobility.
