- 주요내용: Research demonstrates that providing affordable housing and supportive services to seniors is a cost-effective policy that can help delay the need for more intensive and expensive care. A study estimated that the cost savings of a 340-day stay in supportive housing compared to a similar-length stay in a Medicaid-funded nursing home, ranged from $25,000 to $36,000.8 Nationwide, 31.5 percent of Medicaid’s annual $400 billion in shared federal and state spending goes to long-term care in nursing homes for the elderly and the disabled, with New York State estimated to spend more than $20 billion annually. There is the potential for significant cost savings to the State by avoiding more costly care. Similarly, an increased supply of affordable housing units would help reduce the costs associated with housing seniors and members of the general population in emergency shelters.
